INSPIRATION
distorted imagery and unsteady typography
uses symbolism to clearly establish themes and uses old conventions of the genre.
dawn of the dead title sequence inspired music and the typography and also the style of how it appears on the screen then disappears emphasizing the genre as also the colour red has connotations of dead and blood.

PITCH
This is the presentation we used for our pitch to the distributor. By reading the feedback given to us by our teacher and our peers, we realised that the pitch was very vague and didn't have enough visuals to allow the audience to visualise and get the understanding of our vision and what we are planning to do for this title sequence.
we will be doing this pitch again to make the vision clearer and also to help plan for the production as it lacks depth and details e.g storyboard.

HORROR TITLE SEQUENCE ANALYSIS: THE CONJURING
The colour scheme of the title sequence is very dull and scary which sets out the overall mood/ atmosphere for the film.
The colour black has connotations of danger, mystery, death, darkness and evil
The colour white has connotations of angelic, innocence and purity
The contrast of the two themes arouses doubt and uncertainty
The long shot of the house with trees, the ropes and the hangman's noose creates a sense of danger and devastation. The noose hints at suicide and depression highlighting loneliness and unhappiness.
Throughout the title sequence, a number of families have been photographed outside the same house showing that the problem is ongoing and may have something to do with the house itself. The clothes are old fashioned which suggests that the town/house has history.
The names of actors and other people involved in the film have been used to hide the characters in the photos face, this creates a further hidden mysteriousness and secretiveness.
Clipping of newpapers are used often throughout the title sequence to add to the seriousness and also the frequency of these events.
The score has a deep tone and runs throughout the score of the title sequence, which includes chimes and rustling sounds and has an overall creepy and eerie effect to it. The score is very intense and builds up the tension and the title sequence progresses.

BBFC CLASSIFICATIONS
Most horror films are classified as 18 as that means the audience will all be adults therefore they will not be offended by any material used in the horror movie.
I think our group will use this certification as it gives us free reign over what content we choose to show as we may be using blood/gore and maybe nudity for our opening.

AUDIENCE PROFILE
Our chosen demographic is 18-24 year olds as they our the age range which seem to enjoy horror movies most as they are old enough to be exposed to sensitive areas like blood and violence but also young enough to enjoy the adrenaline rush of jump-cares and the shock value in horror movies.
We want to aim our our horror opening at more "film buffs" who are quite sophisticated as they would enjoy the psychological sub-genre of our opening more. Therefore our film would be aimed at 18-24 year old film fans who would be more likely to go see independent horror movies like ours.
PRODUCTION LOGO
Our Production Company
After researching into production companies which have produced films similar to ours I have found that most of them are "Hollywood blockbuster" companies which doesn't match the style of our small, independent horror film opening
Se7en (a psychological horror) was produced by New Line Cinema. |
Therefore we have decided to make our own production company with a logo
